It’s that time of the year again! Teams are pushing to meet annual goals, companies are spending their budgets, and companies are trying to make up for lost time this year. Stress is upon us! Make sure you are on top of the game, take care of your health and well-being.
Even if you’re subjected to high levels of stress, know that you can still take charge of your life with these 3 effective stress management strategies:
1. Identify your stressors.
When you pinpoint the source of your stress, you can develop effective strategies to manage it. Create a list of the situations/events, challenges or concerns that trigger stress for you. The next thing to do is determine whether your stress is caused by a situation, event or person.
Stressors can also be categorized as external or internal events. To make sure you identify the true source of your stress, take a closer look at your habits and routines. For instance, external stressors like deadlines might not really be the real source of your stress; the culprit could be your procrastination habit. When you identify the true source, you enable yourself to be more in control of the situation.
Keep a stress diary. Take time to jot down the regular stressors in your life and how you deal with them. Every time you feel stressed, write it down in your diary or use a stress tracker app. Having a daily log allows you to identify patterns and common themes. Record in your diary what triggered your stress (or make a guess if you’re not sure), how you felt (physically and emotionally), how you responded, and what you did to help yourself feel better.
2. Don’t let go of the basics.
At some point in your life, someone has probably told you or you have read about how important regular exercise, quality sleep and a healthy diet are in managing stress effectively. A healthy body is better at coping with stress, and exercise can relieve stress and improve your mood. The list of benefits goes on!
The challenge is making sure you eat right and get enough exercise/sleep in your busy and demanding day-to-day schedule. Here are some hacks you can try:
